Jack Hawrelak
John (Jack) Morris Hawrelak was born in the Vegreville Alberta General Hospital May 20, 1927 being the eighth born into a family which grew to ten children.
His parents farmed 30 miles north of Vegreville in the Willingdon Area where he completed Grade 9 at the Shandro Public School District. Social Studies was his favourite subject.
Graduating into general farm chores came early, before your teens; and in the teens and going to school, milking eight to nine cows; skimming the milk, workingin the garden; helping his older brother in haying time; to stoke grain, and in the fall to pitch bundles of grain into the threshing machine.
In 1945-46 he attended Chicago Vocational Engineering School in Diesel and Automotive Training. Jack continued his diesel and automotive training in 1947-1948 at SAlT Calgary Alberta. He was a Member of Local 955, International Union of Operating Engineers since 1954, field of Mechanic?
Jack worked around the world as a mechanic including time in Vietnam for the US air force. As he travelled he got to know many people and often discussed
politics. He has a great love for people.
Jack calls Edmonton, Alberta his home.
