As a child, from 1949 to 1954, I lived with my family in living quarters at the back of a small grocery store. I was five years old when my family moved from Edgerton, Alberta to Edmonton. My parents had purchased the store in Edmonton’s river valley, and it came to be known as Evans’ Red and White. My brother Wayne and I both attended McKay Avenue School. We then moved to the Idylwylde neighborhood and attended Idylwylde School, King Edward Park (now Donnan) Junior High School, and Bonnie Doon Composite High School. After I graduated from university with a BA, and later a BEd degree, I worked for thirty-three years as a teacher and school administrator with Edmonton Public Schools.

I am the proud father of two sons, Tom and Ted, and grandfather to five grandchildren, Megan, Ally, Matthieu, Luke and Liam. My two brothers and my sister have all had children, who are all parents. We all value being part of the Evans family and recognize the role my parents played in nurturing and encouraging all of us.
