Sarah De Lano

Sarah De Lano is a mother and language instructor. She is a member of the Métis Nation of Alberta and has ancestral ties to Tive Lot 28, one lot over from where the Kinnaird/Rat Creek Ravine sits and very close to where she currently lives in the community of Parkdale. She harvests plants and berries in the Ravine with her daughter and has recently completed a community-based research project on diversity in greenspace and urban agriculture. As part of her studies, she also completed a report on Métis urban plant use with the Métis Nation of Alberta (MNA), with the goals of increasing the safety of urban harvesting from MNA citizens, as well as advocating for city policy that is more responsive to Métis plant harvesting rights. Sarah holds degrees in Cultural Studies and Community Engagement and currently teaches at the University of Alberta, MacEwan University, and the Multicultural Family Resource Society.
