Check out SWCA’s other collection: Edmonton: Through the Eyes of Its Artists
“Paint the beauty of Alberta’s special spots!” This two-year long assignment given to the members of the Society of Western Canadian Artists resulted in the delightful collection of paintings contained in Alberta: Through the Eyes of Its Artists
These 158 jury-selected works of art showcase Alberta’s impressive mountains, vast prairies, lakes and streams, its tourist attractions, as well as a few city and town sites – all captured in a variety of artistic styles and mediums. The artists have included their personal thoughts about each piece, and you’ll also find “Did you know?” facts about Alberta throughout the book.
Both artistic and educational, this book is a perfect keepsake for visitors to Alberta, Canada, and a “must have” for Albertans who love their province as much as SWCA members do!

“Three Sisters
Mixed Media on canvas 30 x 48 in. (94 x 122 cm)
It started as a watercolor study on location from the hiking trail across Canmore. After drawing and painting all day, the sun was going down and lit up the rocks and crevices of the slopes. It was so cool to see the changes of the mountains with the dusk light.
I started my final version of this painting in my studio but ended up going back a couple times to ensure I had the shapes on the mountains similar to what is there.
This piece incorporates an egg carton mulch to form the mountains and rocks, paper mache mulch to form the hills of trees and a “baking soda” concoction for the snow.”
