If I but Escape into the Forest will you search for me?
Will you take me to your ships and carry me off to lands I do not know?
Will I have my family torn from my arms to never see them again?
Will you burn my home and barn?
Will you take my animals from me to your use?
Will you dig all that I have planted and carry it away?
Will you not let me live in peace upon the land that my father’s hand has willed to me?
Will you drive me from this magic land we call Acadie never to return?
Will you not let my eyes once again look upon Acadia?
