Poet, painter and writer of children’s fiction, Edmonton born Gwen Molnar has been painting for decades and writing for children for thirty-five years. She served in the Canadian Navy (WRCNS), graduated from the University of Alberta (B.Ed., ’49, B.A. (Art) ’79), was Film Librarian for the National Film Board’s Alberta office then lived for 23 years in Rochester, Minnesota where her husband, George, was a Mayo clinic consultant. Gwen worked as a medical proofreader at Mayo before their children Jane and Charles were born, and later did substitute teaching. The Molnars returned to Edmonton in 1975 when George was appointed Chairman of the Department of Medicine at the University of Alberta. George and Gwen have one grandchild, Hazel Molnar.
Gwen is the author of two poetry collections for children, I Said to Sam, and Animal Rap and Far-Out Fables, three Sebastian first chapter books, an early chapter book, No Presents Please and a middle-grade novel, Hate Cell โ a Casey Templeton Mystery, and has been published in several children’s magazine and in seven anthologies. Her work has been read on the CBC, animated on Fred Penner’s Place, and read on Shari Lewis’ Lamb Chop’s Play Along show.
