We all have a hobby and for Brian Hesje, fishing is his. Not only does his book include heart-warming pictures that share the memories of friendship and big catches, but it expresses a passion like no other. He has gained an importance of the environment and conservation.

Many people say they are too busy to have a hobby. I used to be one of those people. That belief changed for me one night while playing poker. Somehow the conversation turned to fishing. The most enthusiastic person was me. That is until one of the guys asked me how often I planned fishing trips. That question turned on the light. None of us have time to pursue our hobbies unless we MAKE time to do so. That night I vowed to myself another year would never pass without having at least one fishing trip. And to date, one year has not!
Fishing has given me much more than I have given fishing. I spent countless hours on or near water, surrounded by fresh air and the beauty of nature. I have had hours of interesting conversation with friends and acquaintances. I have had so much laughter that tears rolled down my cheeks. I have travelled from Edmonton, Alberta to parts of the world that I would never have visited. I gained an appreciation of the importance of the environment and conservation.
Fishing has been a lifelong learning experience for me. I have learned fishing requires patience, fishing requires luck, and for best results, fishing requires money.
Fishing can be done alone and as a boy, I fished many hours by myself. But after my teen years I seldom ever fished solo. I never lost my love of solitude by a river, but I did lose interest in fishing alone.
Conclusion
As a boy I spent many hours thinking about what I’d like to accomplish in my future. As a senior I spend many hours thinking about my accomplishments. I can remember many things that I wish I had not done. I can remember many more that I am glad that I have done. I cannot remember a single day fishing that I regret. If you enjoy something my advice to you is to MAKE time to do it. If you don’t you will more likely think of regrets than of positive memories.
