"Abdominal cancer… less than a year." 27-year-old Deb Klein's life was busy, rewarding and full of plans. When the doctor delivered his verdict, it felt as if a truck had just plowed into her. "… less than a year." What about her goal of reaching the top level of Canadian Kennel Club's obedience competition with her dog, Dru? What about her plans to have Dru bred, to raise a litter of puppies? Would there be enough time? "I'll be around longer than they think." Patricia Pizarro grew up in Honolulu, Hawaii. After graduating from the University of Denver, where she met her husband, Jorge Pizarro-Quiroz from Valparaiso, Chile, she taught high school in California and Wisconsin. Jorge and Pat immigrated to Canada and taught in Alberta until their retirement several years ago. They have two sons, Eric, who lives in England and Anthony in Ontario. Sharing residence with Jorge and Pat are their Cavalier King Charles Spaniels, Toby and Tanya.
