The Art of Being an Asshole…or not by Julia Kopala is a humorous and inciteful read. This book is for you and all the assholes in your life.
From a baby to an adult, perfect the Art of Being an Asshole or take those first few steps in the Asshole Recovery Program provided in this guidebook, to become the fine human being you are meant to be.
The Art of Being an Asshole is an irreverent tongue-in-cheek look at how to be the best asshole you can be, or not, and is intended for a mature audience.
Every vignette in this book is true.
Author’s Note
When I was a small child, I could spot an asshole in a split second, even if I didn’t have the word to describe what I was observing. One of my dad’s friends enlightened me with the perfect descriptor – asshole.
From that moment on I was vigilant and judgemental, “there goes another asshole” I would say in my head, or “could you possibly be an even bigger asshole than you already are?”
When I was a bit older, I often played teacher and lined up my dolls (of which I had only one because my mother discouraged that sort of thing) and stuffed toys (not sure where they came from) on chairs in a half circle around me. In the basement of our two-bedroom home in North Edmonton, I stood in front of my green blackboard, with chalk in hand and proceeded to teach my “students” about arithmetic and how to be the best person they could be. My students had voices. They had smiles for me which made me feel like a darn good teacher.
I continue to teach whoever will listen to me. If you have read this book you are now an honorary “stuffie” in my classroom.
Unbeknownst to me, observing asshole behaviour plus my love of teaching became the seeds for this book.
If The Art of Being an Asshole has mysteriously appeared on your desk or your pillow you might want to do some self-reflection.
