I was born in Dryden, Ontario to Fred and Nora Mackie, in January, 1939, and lived in Minnitaki (a little community outside Dryden). My two sisters, I, and my brother went to a one room school house with a pot-bellied stove in the middle of the room.
I remember our Mother being such a good cook. She could make a meal out of nothing.
When I got married we moved into a house where the lady kept boarders. Not long after moving in, the lady took a notion that she and her husband would take a much needed holiday. Off they went and left me in charge of the cooking. Being a young girl I learned to cook in a hurry. I guess that is when my Mother’s talents set in.
