Asili Kids

Sandra Moraa Muchekeza and Dorothy Ghettuba Pala are sisters and co-founders of Asili Kids. First came Sandra and Dorothy was born two years later. “People say we look alike but we are as different as oranges and avocados and are the best of friends,” says Dorothy.

Dorothy heads Creative and Marketing while Sandra heads Operations and Logistics.

Sandra has two sons and Dorothy has a daughter on the way. The idea for Asili Kids was born after discussions about the glaring absence of children’s books depicting African realities and that tell and celebrate African stories.

Asili means ‘source’ or ‘origin’ in Kiswahili and it embodies the purpose of Asili Kids. “We started Asili Kids because we truly want our children to stay connected to their African heritage and to discover the beauty of African culture and community through the power African stories,” says Sandra.
