Helen Mahoney
Helen Mahoney was born in 1929 and grew up in a busy household, packed with family, friends and renters in the Oliver neighbourhood of Edmonton.
Her favourite pastime was reading which opened doors for her in mid-life when she was accepted into the first Kindergarten Aide program at Grant MacEwan College. Helen enjoyed the many years she worked at Rutherford school; her posting of choice as it was near home and familiar. Her four children and her mother and aunts had also attended Rutherford.
Writing classes were her next challenge and she quickly discovered a hidden talent. Many stories of her life in Edmonton were published in the Edmonton Journal Voices column.
As so often happens in life, we return to our roots. Helen is once again a resident of the lovely Oliver neighbourhood and with her husband Denis continues to enjoy observing and commenting on life.
