R.D. Cotton was born in Calgary in 1937. He spent his early years studying classical violin and won several provincial silver medals. Later he developed an interest in Rock n Roll and switched to guitar and vocalizing. He’s written and recorded his own songs for CHED radio and was on CBC T.V. and radio singing for Tommy Banks and Harry Boone on CJCA in the early sixties.

During that time he became a Registered X-Ray Technician and was in the field for about twelve years. He left X-Ray, and after a myriad of selling jobs he settled at the Physics Department at the University of Alberta in 1981. He was there until his retirement in 2002. His time there inspired him to write his first book, The Flight from Leon.
