What an incredible story! Bearing the Burden of Nations is a story of strength, determination and severe trials in a world saturated with corruption. Paulos’s blessed experiences are told within braids of lessons with Biblical verses and stories. This is a story of growing up in Ethiopia, experiences from the Sycamore tree to the climb to “Paulos’ Palms”, to being imprisoned numerous times, to travelling barefoot to escape to Kenya, to his immigration to Canada a true story of strength. One statement still stands out in my mind that reflects his message and that is it is “crucial that we check our theology on blessing and cursing and understand the impact it has on future generations”. I am so proud to have met this man from South Omo, Ethiopia. Thank you for the incredible read, Paulos! May God Bless you.

Editing Paulos’ story and presenting it to the reader is a privilege. Discovering his wounds, hurts, sorrows, and even the atrocities that were inflicted on him and offering them to the world is an honor. Paulos’ original work was penned in Amharic and then translated into English. There is something more powerful when one writes in their own language and some of it is automatically lost when translated and then some is further lost when edited. But this is Paulos’ story and I have sought to keep his storytelling style and way of speaking as the priority for presenting his life to the reader.
His is a story of incredible faith, fortitude and resolve to do everything possible to help others have hope and come to believe that if God could do it for him then God could do it for you. God’s Word and Biblical principles fill every page as the cornerstone for his life and his journey from South Omo, Ethiopia to Lethbridge, Alberta Canada. Come join Paulos on his journey of faith in the midst of torment, torture, trials and triumph.

It has been a privilege and an honour for me to translate Paulos’ remarkable story from Amharic into English. What sets his account apart is the skillful integration of all his personal experiences with similar biblical stories and using several Amharic proverbs to prompt profound reflection and inject humor into the narrative. While translating the proverbs, I had the privilege of pondering over them and searching for English equivalents with similar meanings.
The book tells how Paulos faced unimaginable challenges in his journey but refused to be defeated. It details how through his determination, perseverance, and the grace of God he became a respected and shining example of the true spirit of humanity. I believe that his powerful story offers hope to all who read and absorb it. What an amazing story!
