โYou canโt drive at highway speed in first gear, and you canโt live at the speed of destiny in the first gear of grace.โ
When you shift through the gears of a vehicle there is tension felt when you reach each gearโs speed limit. Using that as a metaphor, Landen identifies six โgears of graceโ or revelations of the nature of Godโs grace, along with the tension that one feels when one reaches the speed limit of that revelation. He then identifies the โclutchโ or discipline of a disciple necessary to relieve that tension, allowing for the โshift into a new gearโ to grow as a disciple.
Oneโs maturity in Christ is proportionate to the revelation of Godโs grace they live in.
