Later that day when I was playing in the front porch making a playhouse for myself with blankets under my brown metal crib, and the others were playing outside, I knew that Mama and Daddy were not happy. Mama had yelled at Daddy and said, “I need a divorce now. You should have done it while you were overseas.” I didn’t know what that meant but I knew it didn’t sound very nice.
A few days later Daddy left.
