Somethings to Think About is a compilation by retired nurse and photographer, Heather Seargeant, of selected blog stories by Alberta-born author, Bill Dogterom. These selected blogs are arranged with photos so that the reader can ponder the words while looking at the photos. There is a connection between the words and the photos that may be apparent, or, there may be a connection that you find completely different from the original one thought of. As Bill writes occasionally through the year, the blogs follow a kind of seasonal theme. As we chose the blogs the Lenten Series on the seven sins shone out as very helpful and telling.
We often think we are doing all right, yet these prayers call for a closer examination of our thoughts. They do not condemn, but they do reveal, and confession to a loving Lord then is met with great kindness. They could be read much more often than just in the season on Lent. This little book is meant to dip into now and then, sometimes seasonally, and sometimes just when you want to, regardless of the season. Time Between Times, the last blog included, was written to be read and pondered about between Christmas and New Year, and that is a perfect time for it, but, as with the other readings, it is a wonderful reflection to use at any time of the year.
As Bill’s blog is called Something to Think About, this book is full of “somethings” that have been understood and shared along the journey by a fellow pilgrim, pastor, teacher, hence the title, Somethings to Think About.
Let us travel together in humility.
