“You saw the young ones?”
“We did, as they stood in the moonlight at the front of the ship by the rail, in each other’s arms.”
“Were they clear to you?”
“As clear as the distance would allow. Why?”
“They be the ghosts of Beth! It it said that only those who are truly in love can see them in the light of the full moon. They sail with us at all times and
there are few who have seen them. It is said it is the young sailor and his wife who were swept into the sea, and their love lives on aboard the Beth.”
“But we saw them clear as clear. Is this not just a tale you tell us? Do you mean to frighten us with this tale of ghosts?”
“Do not approach them as others have done. If you go forward to them they will disappear. This others who have sailed with us have seen. They have run and called that the couple has been swept over the side and caused great concern for the Captain and crew. It was only when Captain Kirkness called to mind the real couple who was lost over the side sometime in the past did we stop our search for them.”
