There is a Friesian saying: Hwa it forline forjit, forjit himsels”—Whoever denies the past, denies himself. From 1964 to 1969, Meindert Polet penned his memories in his native tongue, Friesian. His son Tom felt that it was important to translate Meindert’s words into English for the enjoyment of future generations and for all who have an interest in history.
