Leisl’s Dream by Marguerite Antonio is a story about a young Mennonite woman’s dream to marry the man of her dreams and build a family in the America.
When Alexei, now a Russian Army officer, eventually recognizes and declares his love for Leisl, the First World War and bloody, brutal Bolshevik Revolution as well as her Mennonite belief in Pacifism all conspire against them.
Their faith and love prevail and they are married only to have Alexei again embroiled in conspiracies and vendettas as the several opposing armies that are Russia at the time, vie for supremacy.
Alexei goes missing and after their son is born, Leisl searches for him amid the chaos.
Later, at the behest of her family and for the safety of her son, she does move to Canada.
Will she ever see Alexei again? Can she make a life for herself and her son in this new land? Will her faith and love endure?
