Take a pint-sized woman in a Sari, add a large dash of wit and grace, and you have the delightfully humorous and riveting story of Wonder Woman Conquers Canada’s North”. Shashi Kalia’s story of her immigration to Canada from India is a beautifully written tale of the cultural nuances of learning to live in and love a new country. A must read!

The value of this book lies, I believe, in the way in which it brings alive the experiences of a young Hindu Family meeting a totally new culture in northern Alberta and eventually successfully making the great adjustment to the demands of that culture. In very personal and often vividly frank terms Shashi brings home to her reader the life – sometimes painful, sometimes happy and sometimes funny – she lived during her years in Cold Lake. The result is an account that is deeply rewarding to a western reader.
