The Old Woman and the Grizzly Grey Graks by Kay Guthrie is a fun story about an old woman who lives alone in a cave, until one day when she encounters the Grey Graks. Although a childrenโs adventure story, its adult themes such as loneliness and aging make the story appealing to adults as well.
Excerpt from The Old Woman and the Grizzly Grey Graks:
โThe โGrizzly Onesโ all chuckled. That made the old woman decide that they were not nice, also quite rude – laughing at her because she was afraid.
โWeโve come to take you home. Donโt you recognize us?โ
Take me home, she thought. Were they children or teen-age monsters? She could not decide, so she said nothing. She didnโt understand the part, โwe are taking you home.โ What home? Where is this โhomeโ?
She looked them over – carefully. She said to herself, โThey call themselves โgrizzlyโ. They could be grizzly bears under those clothes.โ She tightened her grip on the harpoon, and tried to remember if sheโd ever seen these Grizzly Grey-Graks before, when suddenly they all burst into song!โ
