The essays in this book are written from an omnidisciplinary perspective; they attempt to transcend traditional boundaries. While they may run counter to conventional wisdom they do so, I believe, from breadth rather than depth. They will interest university students, the intelligent lay public and especially the free-thinkers in our society. In retrospect they all appear to indicate a hidden proclivity: to make sense of observations, to explore original ideas and to contribute to the solution of societal problems. I am sure I am not alone in this tendency.
This second edition adds a number of essays under two headings: Arts and Education (p.50 et seq) and Humanities (p.195 et seq). Like those in the first edition they are omnidisciplinary and eclectic. Many of the ideas are borrowed from articles published or presented elsewhere. Not surprisingly, they treat subjects and themes which, like those in the first edition, have occupied my thoughts over many decades. Enjoy!
