Many times now had Madeleine gone to the shore on Sunday and looked out across the Basin to see if the English ship with her sailor was coming to take her with him.

Each time she went to the shore she would go into the church and kneel and ask that the Holy Mother would hear her prayers and ask her Son to look upon her with mercy. She would then again go back to the bluff and stand in the breeze off the waters and let her eyes look for his ship.

In a land that would one day be known as Canada, there was very early in its history a place known as Nouvelle-France.
Within this place there was a magical place that was called Acadia.
Those who came from France were seeking to have a place for themselves and their families. They were willing to work hard, love the Lord God and to love, treasure and be part of an ever growing community.
The family was the center of their lives. All knew what was expected of them and they worked for the betterment of all. To step outside of the family framework was not expected and perhaps not permitted.
But as in every story there is always some who will find themselves going contrary to the norm. Falling in love can bring not only happiness and joy but perhaps tragedy and heartache.
Let me take you back to the eighteenth century and to the love of two who should perhaps not have tried to step outside of their place in life.
